The worst fear of a family was realized earlier this week when the burnt remains of their loved one was identified by his father. On Monday, June 7, 21-year-old Peter Luis Jones left home to an unknown location and did not have any communications with his family thereafter. They became worried and quickly made a report with the police asking the public for any information that might assist them in locating Jones. While the days passed, they became even more concerned.
The family received heartbreaking news this week when the burnt remains of a human, which were found on a farm in Cayo, were positively identified as those of Jones. A farmer of Esperanza Village in the Cayo district was doing his daily rounds on his farm when he came upon the charred remains. He quickly called the San Ignacio police who visited the farm and collected any available data. Investigators began their work and the police have now confirmed that those remains are those of Jones, a volunteer firefighter. Jone’s body was identified by his father, Peter Jones Sr., by the tattoos on his body. While this was the outcome the family never expected nor wanted, they say that they finally have closure and will be able to give their loved one a proper burial.
A post mortem examination was conducted on the body and certified that the cause of death was undetermined. Police investigation continues into this case.
