Over the past few days, there has been a persistent plume of smoke rising from a mountainous area near the famous Sleeping Giant formation in the Stann Creek District. It has attracted the curiosity of many, including the Geology Department, which has dispatched personnel to the area to find out exactly what is causing the consistent smoke.
Video footage publicized on Facebook by some curious onlookers who trekked to the site shows a small patch of ground where the smoke is persistently billowing from. The curiosity has been heightened by the fact that over the past few days there has been significant rain and the smoke persists dispelling the notion that it is a result of a forest fire.
Preliminary suggestions by the Geology department is that the smoke is a result of geological or volcanic activity in the area.
