Friday evening murder in Belize City

Kirk Gordon

Following a very violent week throughout the country where an almost unprecedented number of murders took place, this past week has been relatively calm. This is except for the murder of Kirk Gordon which took place in the Old Capital of Belize City. The 43-year-old, who was known to the law and had been released for a charge of murder later reduced to manslaughter in 2019, was slain quite the distance from his Kraal Road home. He was on Peter Seco Street in the St. Martin’s de Porres area of the City when an unknown gunman approached him and opened fire. He was sitting near a boat when his life was taken from him.
Just after 6:30 p.m., police officers responded to the shooting incident and met Gordon’s motionless body on the ground. His body bore several gunshot wounds and he was transported to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival. So what might have been the reason for Gordon’s murder? Police say that they are pursuing multiple theories but believe it to be as a result of a rivalry with persons from the area. One person is being sought but has not yet been detained nor charged.
