There was a home invasion in the Cayo District on Sunday evening. According to police, they responded to a report of aggravated burglary on the Benque Viejo Road in San Ignacio Town at Alicias’ Variety Store.
At that location, they met and spoke with one Luis Martinez who informed that he and other family members were inside the dwelling, which adjoins the store when just around 5:30 p.m. three Hispanic males entered the building and forced themselves upon them. They were held up at gunpoint and spoken to in Spanish, demanding the keys for his 2008 Toyota Hilux which was downstairs. The dwellers of the house were all bound where the building was ransacked and several items were stolen from the store including footwear and other items.
Shortly thereafter the robbers then made good their escape in the Toyota Hilux which surveillance footage has shown passed the Santa Rosa checkpoint on the Bullet Tree Road –heading into Guatemala. Police now believe that the assailants are of Guatemalan nationality and the department is working with their counterparts across the border.
