In the middle of April, News 5 aired a story in which two brothers appeared on their newscast claiming that they had been defrauded by former Area Representative for Dangriga, Frank ‘Papa’ Mena. The news item was so slanderous that it led Mena to file a suit against the station. On Tuesday, News 5 had to publicly apologize to the former area rep. They claimed that they were given information that they had not independently verified but still ran it on their news. They added that they caused injury to Mena and his then CEO, Peter Allen’s reputation and were sorry for it.
