Police arrest suspect in Clifford Hyde Murder

Police have arrested and charged Hugh Daniel Middleton 26, of Roaring Creek Village for the murder of Clifford Hyde and the attempted murder of Anya Galvez 18. Middleton appeared in the Belmopan Magistrate’s Court where he was charged with Murder, Attempted Murder, Dangerous Harm, and Use of Deadly Means of Harm.
Clifford Hyde, 41 years, was shot dead around 5:00 p.m. on the evening of Holy Saturday, April 3, in the Young Bank Area of Camalote. His daughter Anya Galvez, 18 years was also shot and is now in critical condition at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital after receiving a gunshot to the head. Reports are that Hyde had an argument with a man earlier on and he returned with a gun and shot him dead.
Clifford Hyde was recently released from the Belize Central Prison after spending fifteen years there. Hyde and his brother Russell were convicted for the murder of Allyson Castillo in 2004.
Clifford and his daughter were at a family gathering in Camalote at the residence of Russell Hyde Jr. when they were shot. The gunman was observed fleeing towards Peace Road.
On Monday morning, March 8th, a man in dark clothing from inside a taxi, directed shots at Malcom Hyde, Clifford Hyde Jr. and another man at the corner of Hyde’s Meat Shop in Roaring Creek. None of the men were injured.
The Hyde family has been struck by tragedy several times. Patriarch Alvin Hyde Sr. has lost over eleven family members since May 2015.
Russell Hyde’s common law wife, Rosalie Galvez, had been shot in the head on May 18th of 2015 while she was in the passenger seat of a Toyota truck with him near the Gunacaste Park at the entrance to Belmopan. Exactly one week later, the decapitated body of 28-year-old Edilberto Medina, an associate of Russell Hyde, was recovered from the Belize River off the Valley of Peace Road. Just 24 hours later, Steven “Deeds” Hyde, Russell Hyde’s cousin, turned up dead.
Steven Hyde, was found in a shallow grave at Russell Hyde’s farm. The 51-year-old Steven Hyde had hands and feet missing when he was found.
