A 2-year-old and a 4-year-old have lost their father, 21-year-old Kevaughan “Blue” Morris, to another act of gun violence which took place in Belize City. On Saturday, March 27, Morris was sitting inside Cumberbatch Park located near Caesar Ridge Road along with a second male person when a gunman approached him and took away his life. Several shots were fired and at the end of it Morris lay motionless on the playground. Police responded to the incident and when they arrived on scene, they met his body on the ground. Morris was transported to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital but succumbed to his injuries shortly thereafter. His common-law wife says that she had spoken to him just moments before his murder, and was shocked to hear that he had been killed.
His family are left to mourn his loss and left with questions as to why he was murdered. They described him as a quiet person who kept to himself, and a father who spent his days looking after his children. Still, Sr. Spt. Hilberto Romero, Deputy Head of the National Crimes Investigation Branch, says that Morris was in fact known to the police and had just recently been detained and searched prior. From their investigations so far, it seems that Morris was the intended target and the police are seeking one person in relation to this homicide but have not yet determined a motive.
