Body of missing man found in a shallow grave

Raphael Garrido

The body of a man was discovered in a shallow grave off the Hummingbird Highway just outside of Belmopan and reports are that it has been identified as 24-year-old Rafael Patrick Garrido, who was reported missing. The body was found at around 9:00 a.m. on Monday, February 15, 2021 when a group of hunters came across the grave. Police were called to the area and dug up the body before it was identified as that of Garrido.
Garrido was reported missing following a business trip to Orange Walk on February 3, 2021. After his family and loved ones became increasingly worried, they made their way to the police station after which a missing person’s flyer was generated and circulated. Their investigations up until that point had showed that the Ladyville resident had traveled to Orange Walk to conduct some sort of business transaction. On the way back to the Belize District, he was dropped off at a location near Mile 31 on the Philip Goldson Highway and had been missing ever since.
Following the exhumation of the decomposed body, the family was called and were able to identify Garrido by his tattoos and personal items found on the scene. While there were no visible signs of injuries on the body, it was transported to the Medical College for a post mortem.
