The San Ignacio and Santa Elena Town Council recently continued paving the main streets of San Ignacio Town. Second Street was paved as well as other main thoroughfares. Directly overseeing the work as it was done was Mayor Earl Trapp, Jr.
A release from the San Ignacio/Santa Elena (SISE) Town Council states that under the leadership of Mayor Earl Trapp and Councillors, they have continued their steady progress towards financial self-sustainability. Since taking office in 2015, Mayor Trapp and the Council, through hard work and prudent fiscal management has continued to build the Council’s financial portfolio of revenues to the point where the Government’s contribution to the annual budget of the Council comprises a mere 7% of the total budget.
According to the release from the San Ignacio/Santa Elena (SISE) Town Council, the other 93% of its revenue is garnered from trade and liquor license fees, traffic license fees and building permits, and property taxes. The Town Council also supplements this income with grant funding and business partnerships that have allowed it to purchase food items and schoolbags. Much effort is also being invested to uplift streets and drains to climate-resilient levels–to mitigate the impact of flooding due to climate change–and to garner training opportunities for its staff.
