A series of police operations conducted on Tuesday, January 19, 2021 have resulted in the discovery and seizure of drugs and other illegal items. These searches took place all across the country. In the Belize District, a search was conducted at the entrance of Ladyville Village at a basketball court, which resulted in the discovery of a CZ 75 B 9mm Luger pistol and empty magazine. Later than same day, another search was conducted on an abandoned lot located on Gentle Avenue where K9 indicated to a black plastic bag which contained three Saran-wrapped parcels of 268 grams of cannabis. No one was in the area for either of these instances and the pistol and drugs were labeled and deposited as found property. Police have indicated that the firearm will be sent to the National Forensic Science Service Laboratory for ballistic testing.
A search on an empty lot on G Street in Corozal Town, resulted in the discovery of two parcels which were buried on the land. They were dug up and noticed to contain suspected cannabis weighing a total of 1,239 grams or 2.7 pounds. Another pound of cannabis was found along the creek in the area. At 4:00 p.m., officers conducted searches on an empty lot on Progress Street, Orange Walk Town where they found a Ziploc bag containing 24 pieces of small plastic bags. Each of these bags contained cocaine powder amounting to 3.7 grams. In Belmopan, Cayo, a little over half pound of weed was found under a rock on an empty lot on Mohablanca Street. Lastly, in the Hattieville Area of Roaring Creek, Cayo, K9 searched some bushes on an empty lot where four transparent plastic bags were found. Inside the bags, a total of 455.9 grams or a little over a pound of weed was found. No one was in the immediate area at the time of any of these searches and all these items were labeled and deposited as found property.
