Two neighbors, 23-year-old Deandre Adolphus and 21-year-old Michael Gladden both of West Canal in Belize City, are on remand at the Belize Central Prison. The duo appeared before Magistrate Stephanie Gillett where they were read the indictable offenses of attempted murder, dangerous harm, and use of deadly means of harm upon 28-year-old Karen Pinto. Pinto, a resident of Antelope Street Extension, was shot once to the left leg on December 20, 2020. On Sunday, December 20, 2020, at around 6:55 p.m., police responded to shots fired on Antelope Street Extension where they learnt of a woman being shot. Pinto and a resident of the same area told police that two men approached the victim while she was in the company of a male relative as they were walking in the area. Pinto underwent surgery for her injury but was able to identify her attackers, men she claimed to have known for years, leading to their arrests. Pinto was not the intended target of this incident but was hurt nonetheless.
In court where both men appeared unrepresented, no plea could have been taken from either men due to the nature of the offenses. Likewise, bail could not be offered and they were remanded until April 8, 2021 or until they can secure Supreme Court bail through an attorney.
