A woman driving a vehicle, which police suspected was being used to carry drugs, has found herself in trouble with the law. 27-year-old Nikesha Rhaburn of a La Croix Boulevard address in Belize City was driving an Acura brand vehicle on Friday, January 8, 2021 when police, who had received intelligence, followed her to West Collet Canal. There, police intercepted the vehicle and found Rhaburn behind the wheel accompanied by two other women inside the vehicle, one of whom had a baby in her lap. Police then asked Rhaburn for her driver’s license before telling her that a search for drugs would be conducted in the vehicle. Nothing incriminating was found and the group of persons was taken to the police station. There, the officers performed a search on Rhaburn where some 121 grams of suspected cannabis was found on her person. As a result, she was arrested and charged for drug trafficking.
She appeared unrepresented before Senior Magistrate Aretha Ford to be read the charge. She pleaded not guilty and since there was no objection to bail, she was offered bail in the sum of $1,500 plus one surety of the same which she was able to meet. She is due back in court on March 9, 2021.
