Last murder for 2020

Shane Flowers

Approximately 120 murders were recorded by the Belize Police Department for the year 2020 and the last of that was recorded on New Year’s Eve, December 31. The victim of that fatality was 25-year-old Shane Flowers, a resident of Taylor’s Alley in Belize City. According to Sr. Spt. Hilberto Romero, Deputy Head, National Crimes Investigation Branch, police responded to a shooting incident on Glyn Street in Belize City where they met the victim’s already lifeless body. Further investigations led them to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital where a second victim was found. Fortunately for Maneera Wilson, this second victim, she was not fatally wounded and eventually stabilized at the KHMH.
Police have since learned that both Flowers and Wilson were walking along West Street when they came under attack from gunshots. They both attempted to flee to safety but Flowers was not as lucky. He is no stranger to the law and police say that the cause of the shooting was due to the gang rivalry in the area.
A 17-year-old was detained and charged in connection with the incident. He was arraigned on the murder charge in the presence of his mother on Monday. He remains remanded at the Wagner’s Facility until his next court appearance.
