Chinese businessman charged for bribery

Xue Wei Guo

A businessman caught selling liquor when restricted to do so found himself in more trouble with the law after allegedly attempting to bribe a police officer. 56-year-old Xue Wei Guo, store owner of Stephen Shop located on McKay Boulevard, appeared before Magistrate Stephanie Gillett and was represented by attorney Ronell Gonzalez. He informed the court that his client had ties as well as residency in Belize. There was no objection to bail and Guo was offered bail in the sum of $5,000 plus two sureties of $2,500 each which he was able to meet.
The police say that on Friday, December 25, Guo was caught selling liquor to a customer at 6:30 p.m.; currently, under SI No. 175 of 2020, it is restricted to sell liquor after 6:00 p.m. When a police officer Cpl. Manuel Chubb caught the store owner in the act, Guo allegedly attempted to offer Cpl. Chub $300 to overlook the offense.
