A 22-year-old man, Jeffrey Contreras, had been remanded to the Hattieville Central Prison on a charge of abetment to commit murder following the killing of well-known and liked salesman for Bowen and Bowen, 57-year-old Sean Menzies. On Wednesday, those charges were upgraded to murder.
Contreras was charged along with a 16-year-old minor who has also been charged with murder.
Menzies had just reached his Lancaster Street home sometime after 11 p.m. on Wednesday November 18, when he was shot and killed as he smoked a cigarette in front of his home.
Police say Menzies may have been in the company of another man when two people passed by. They would return but Menzies was alone and was shot shortly after. It is believed that the other man may have actually been the target but that Menzies was shot instead.
Surveillance footage from the area show two men leaving the area after the shooting. One of the men is believed to be Contreras.
