Delroy Chaplin murdered in Ladyville

Delroy Chaplin

Often times when a murder is connected to some illegal gang activity, it is a dispute between rival gangs which leads to the murder. In the case of Delroy Chaplin, however, police are saying that it was an internal issue within a group which led to the shooting murder. 35-year-old Chaplin was shot and killed on Monday, November 16, 2020, just hours after the murder of Jareth Tablada in Belize City. Chaplin, a resident of Ladyville, reportedly left his home just after 8:00 p.m. to purchase cannabis from someone not too far away on Perez Road in Ladyville village. It was on his return home that he was ambushed and shot.
Ladyville Police responded to the shooting incident at around 8:10 p.m. and met Chaplin’s lifeless body on the pavement. There were multiple gunshot injuries to his body and he was pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital. Police investigations seem to have pointed to an internal dispute in a group with which he had association. COMPOL Chester Williams says that while they will refrain from divulging too much into why the police have come to that conclusion, it has to do with the proceeds of a crime which was committed.
Chaplin seemingly did not have the best record and even his common-law wife, Pamela Staine, attested to his life of crime. She says that his murder was somehow foreshadowed when just days before, on Sunday, a minor who was in his company, was shot and injured. The police, however, say that the two incidents are not connected.
