A 23-year-old man was the victim of a fatal road traffic accident that took place on Monday, November 2, 2020. At around 8:25 p.m., police visited the San Ignacio Community Hospital where they observed the lifeless body of the victim later identified as Eddy Francisco Requeña.
Officers spoke to a brother of the deceased, 30-year-old Ruben Garcia, who explained that his younger brother was involved in an accident in Unitedville, Cayo. He was travelling inside his pickup truck with a passenger when he collided into heavy equipment which was travelling on the highway around Mile 60 on the George Price Highway in Unitedville. The impact was on the driver’s side and it caused Requeña to be trapped inside the vehicle. He was allegedly extracted by firefighters and later he and his passenger were transported to the hospital.
From the scene of the accident, Requeña was transported to the Western Regional Hospital where he received treatment for his injuries and was later released. There, physicians described his injuries simply as scratches and bruises. While at home in Santa Elena, Cayo; however, Requeña complained that he was feeling unwell and that is when he was transported to the San Ignacio Community Hospital. Upon arrival, he was pronounced dead after which the police were called. His body awaits a post mortem examination and police are investigating this sudden death.
