A total of ten persons, six players and four members of the coaching staff, of the Verdes Football Club, owned by FFB President Sergio Chuc, has tested positive for COVID-19. Verdes FC is currently in Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic where they were to play in a match against a team from Haiti as a part of the Confederation of North, Central America and Caribbean Association Football (CONCACAF) Scotiabank 2020 League. Due to their positive COVID-19 tests, however, they have been unable to do so. They were found positive after arriving on the island where they were each swabbed. Four players and four members of the coaching staff tested positive and have been placed on a 14-day quarantine. The remaining two players were swabbed while travelling through Panama and are now quarantined at the Panamanian Health Authority.
Chuc says that due to restrictions on sporting activing in country, the team was taken to Cancun from the beginning of the month for training. They spent the last three weeks preparing for the CONCACAF game but it was upon arriving in Santo Domingo and abiding by CONCACAF COVID-19 protocols that they were swabbed. It is as a result of that swab that eight of the ten tested positive.
