Leon Peyrefitte

The lifeless body of 34-year-old Leon Peyrefitte laid on 2nd Street in King’s Park, Belize City on Saturday, October 10, 2020. He, his wife, and friends were socializing just outside of Jian Ye Shop, better known as Alaska, when a mask-wearing gunman opened fire on him. Peyrefitte, a resident of Faber’s Road, was a long way from home and not a regular customer at the shop and as such, it is believed that he was lured to his death.
Police understand that the group was socializing when they spotted a pair of persons travelling on a motorcycle. One of the men descended on the establishment and proceeded to walk toward Peyrefitte, who was leaning against his pickup truck. He was first shot once to the head and then at least four times more. The gunman was wearing a mask and helmet and soon escaped, leaving Peyrefitte fatally wounded.
According to Supt. Alejandro Cowo, O.C., C.I.B., Eastern Division, a number of persons, including Peyrefitte’s wife, have been interviewed in relation to this deadly incident. These persons of interest are believed to be able to assist in the police investigation of this murder. Based on preliminary investigations, the police understand that it might have been a family or domestic dispute, which resulted in Peyrefitte’s murder. His siblings are especially of the view that their brother was lured to his death given that he does not normally frequent that side of the city. It is understood that Peyrefitte and his wife were constantly involved in disagreements, and that a number of threats have even been made on Peyrefitte’s life.
