The Octavia Waight Center in San Ignacio has received a donation from the community. On Wednesday, Mayor Earl Trapp, Jr. and the San Ignacio & Santa Elena Town Council gave back to the Octavia Waight Center with an in-kind donation. It was brought through the efforts of the Colorado Community Outreach Group, who has been visiting Belize during the past years and assisting with many activities within the municipality.
Their generous contribution is towards helping needy families within the twin-towns during this COVID-19 pandemic. It was also aligned with remembering our elderly especially in the week where the International Day of Older Persons is being celebrated with the theme, “Pandemics: Do They Change How We Address Age And Ageing?”
For the past 30 years, International Day of Older Persons has been celebrated by the United Nations on October first. According to Nurse Ivorine Bulwer, Executive Director of Helpage-in a media presentation last week-older persons are not to be left behind.
The San Ignacio and Santa Elena Town Council is very grateful to the Colorado Community Outreach Group for having our community at heart and for assisting us to provide such donations to our elderly at the Octavia Waight Center, especially during this pandemic.
