A deadly shooting incident on Faber’s Road in Belize City which has left one dead and another injured has landed one of the victim’s relatives behind bars. Leroy Thomas Bardalez, 22, has been arraigned in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court on the indictable charges of murder, attempted murder, dangerous harm, and use of deadly means of harm. Police say that he is responsible for the incident which took place on Monday, September 7 when an attack was made on the life of Ricky Nelson Miguel and his girlfriend, Thalia Westby.
At around 8:35 p.m. on that date, police responded to information of a shooting incident which had taken place on Madam Liz Avenue. They visited the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital where they met Westby suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. Miguel, a 26-year-old resident originally from Dangriga Town, Stann Creek, succumbed to his injuries.
Initial investigating revealed that Miguel and Westby were inside a vehicle parked at the corner of Whistling Duck Drive and Rio Grande Crescent when Bardalez, also known as “Boots”, approached them at the passenger side door of the vehicle they were in. He drew a firearm and fired several shots toward them before riding off on a bicycle.
Due to the nature of the offense, no plea was taken and he was denied bail and remanded until November 9, 2020. He also has a pending case of attempted murder which has been committed to the Supreme Court.
