Belize’s security forces are the latest beneficiaries to Taiwan’s generosity. On Monday June 1, Hon. Michael Peyrefitte received a donation of 60,000 surgical face masks from the Embassy of the Republic of China (Taiwan).
Ambassador of Taiwan to Belize Remus Li-Kuo Chen said, “Amidst the global health crisis, people realize that no one can fight in this long and dreadful battle alone. As one of the most loyal friends of Belize, Taiwan will stand side by side with Belize and never leave behind our brothers and sisters here for walking through the valley of shadow and continue to support Belize through thick and thin to overcome the adversity.”
The Ambassador also congratulated Belize on its efforts in managing COVID-19 and maintaining order through the measures under the statutory instruments.
In his remarks, Minister of National Security Sen. Hon. Michael Peyrefitte thanked the Ambassador on behalf of the Government and people of Belize. He said, “It comes as no surprise to me that you’re assisting us in making this wonderful donation to help our brothers and sisters on the frontline tackle this disease to keep the Belizean people safe.”
The masks will be distributed among the Belize Defence Force, Belize Coast Guard and the Belize Police Department.
Present at the brief ceremony were the CEO in the Ministry of National Security (Ret.) Col. George Lovell, members of the security forces of Belize, staff of the Ministry of National Security, and representatives from the Embassy of Taiwan.
