The Premier League of Belize Closing Season competition continued over the weekend despite the wet conditions that prevailed. In fact, the wet conditions forced the organisers of the competition to postpone the game that was scheduled between Wagiya SC and Verdes FC.
Meanwhile, on Saturday 7 March, at the Michael Ashcroft Stadium in Independence Village on a very wet and water soaked pitch, the defending Closing Season champions San Pedro Pirates and the host team Altitude FC played to a 2-2 draw.
The visiting San Pedro Pirates FC was the first to make it onto the scoreboard when Jesse Smith scored the first goal of the game in the 7th minute of play to give his team an early lead. However, that lead was short-lived as the host team Altitude FC made it onto the scoreboard when Jose Urbina scored the equalising goal for his team in the 21st minute of play to tie the score at 1-1.
In the opening minutes of the second half of the game, the San Pedro Pirates made it a 2-1 score when Moises Hernandez scored his goal in the 47th minute of play to retake the lead. The San Pedro Pirates FC were able to hold onto a slim lead for most of the second half of the game until Eduardo Andrade scored the equalising goal in the 86th minute of play for the home team Altitude FC.
At the end of the long whistle, it was indeed a 2-2 draw.
And on Sunday 8th March at the Placencia Football Field in Placencia Village, the visiting BDF FC edged out the host team Placencia Assassins FC by the score of 2-1. The visiting BDF FC was the first to make it onto the scoreboard when Placencia Assassins FC’s Ashley Torres own goal in the 21st minute of play gave the visitors an early lead.
The BDF FC was able to take the slim lead well into the second half of the game before John Valencia was able to score the equalising goal in the 80th minute of play via a penalty kick for the Placencia Assassins FC. However, that was not able to ward off the BDF FC as Camilo Sanchez scored the final goal of the game in the 89th minute of play to give the BDF FC the win.
The competition will continue this coming weekend with three more games on the schedule.
