The National Primary School Basketball Championship was played on Friday 6th March 2020 at Mexico Sports Centre in Belize City.
There were three (3) schools participating in the girls division and three (3) in the boys division. The schools in the girls competition were: San Antonio Government – Corozal District, Louisiana Government School – Orange Walk District and Holy Ghost Roman Catholic School – Stann Creek District, meanwhile the schools in the boys’ competition were: Wesley Upper School – Belize District, St. Peter Claver Roman Catholic School – Toledo District and St. Alphonsus Roman Catholic School – Stann Creek District.
In the girls’ championship game, Louisiana Government School defeated San Antonio Government School by the score of 12-7. The top scorer for Louisiana Government School was Elva Nunes with 6 points while the top scorer for San Antonio Government School was Sarina Gilharry with 3 points.
In the boys’ championship game, Wesley Upper School defeated St. Alphonsus RC School by the score of 48-14.The top scorers for Wesley Upper School was James Saldano with 14 points while the top
Scorer for St. Alphonsus RC School was Rupert Cardinez with 7 points.
In the first game of the girls’ championship game, Louisiana Government School defeated San Antonio Government School by the score of 6-2.The top scorer Louisiana Government School was Elva Nunes with 4 points while the top scorer San Antonio Government School was Sarina Gilharry with 2 points.
In the first boys’ game of the day, Wesley Upper School defeated St. Alphonsus RC School by the score of 48-14.The top scorer for Wesley Upper School was James Saldano with 14 points while the top scorer for St. Alphonsus RC School was Rupert Cardinez with 7 points.
In the second girls’ game, San Antonio Government School defeated Holy Ghost RC School by the score of 11-10.The top scorer for San Antonio Government School was Rashida Mossiah with 6 points while the top scorer for Holy Ghost RC School was Khalydia Velasquez with 6 points.
In the second boys’ game, Wesley Upper School defeated St. Alphonsus RC School by the score of 43-18. The top scorer for Wesley Upper School was Calvin Thurton with 8 points while the top scorer for St. Alphonsus RC School was Kimark Zuniga with 6 points.
And in the final game of the girls’ game of the regular round, Louisiana Government School defeated Holy Ghost RC School by the score of 18-11.The top scorer for Louisiana Government School was Elva Nunes with 14 points while the top scorer for Holy Ghost RC School was Khalydia Velasquez with 6 points.
In the final game of the boys’ regular round, St. Alphonsus RC School defeated St. Peter Claver RC School by the score of 22-13.The top scorer for St. Alphonsus RC School was Rupert Cardinez with 6 points while the top scorers for St. Peter Claver RC School were Travis Garbutt and Hasann Sanchez with 5 points each.
At the end of the day, Elva Nunes (Louisiana Government School – Orange Walk) was named The Most Valuable Player in the girls’ division. And in the boys’ division, Thomas Garcia (Wesley Upper – Belize) was named the Most Valuable Player.
