207 new police officers


The Belize Police Department (BPD) has recently graduated its latest set of officers. On Saturday, March 7, 2020, the 207 newly trained police officers passed out from the National Police Training Academy. Following their graduation, they are now official members of the BPD under recruit squad ninety-seven (97). The officers graduated at the National Police Training Academy (NPTA) in Belmopan.
There, Hon. Michael Peyrefitte, Attorney General and acting Minister of National Security, delivered the keynote address, encouraging all officers to continue their efforts in making Belize a safe place. He went on to say that the success of the BPD largely depends on the corporation of the community and that as newly trained officers, that they will play an integral role in maintaining the professional outlook of the department. Besides the AG, Hon. Elodio Aragon, Minister of State in the Ministry of National Security; Hon. Patrick Faber, Minister of Education, Youth, Sports, and Culture; Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police; and other members of law enforcement were present.
Several of the newly graduated officers were recognized for various accomplishments including RPC 1940 Shawn Gamboa, who was the recipient of the Baton of Honor. In his address to the attendants, he highlighted punctuality, discipline, and accountability as just a few of the ideas learnt while training at the NPTA.
