The Premier League of Belize 2019-2020 Closing Season Competition officially started on Saturday 11th January, 2020, with two games on the schedule.
At the Isidoro Beaton Stadium in Belmopan, the host team Bandits Sport blasted the visiting Placencia Assassins FC by the score of 11-0.
Andres Makin scored the first goal of the game in the 34th minute of play to give his team a 1-0 lead. In fact, Makin’s goal was the only one that was really needed as the Bandits Sport defence did not give up any goals. The Bandits Sport lead was increased when the newly acquired Facundo Garnier scored the first of his two goals in the 36th minute of play for a 2-0 lead. Facundo Garnier then scored his second goal of the game in the 40th minute of play for a 3-0 lead. The lead was further increased when Georgie Welcome scored the first of his three goals in the 43rd minute of play for a 4-0 lead.
In the second half of the game, the Bandits Sport lead was further increased when Trevor Lennan scored in the 47th minute of play and he was followed by Humberto Requena in the 53rd minute of play, Georgie Welcome in the 55th minute and 59th minute of play, Humberto Requena in the 78th minute of play and Carlos Gonzalez in the 81st and 87th minute of play for the one-sided victory.
Meanwhile, at the Michael Ashcroft Stadium in Independence Village, newly crowned Opening Season champions Verdes FC and Altitude FC played to a 0-0 draw.
The competition then continued on Sunday 12th January with two more games on the schedule. At the Carl Ramos Stadium in Dangriga Town, the defending Closing Season champions the San Pedro Pirates and Wagiya SC played to a 1-1 draw.
The host team Wagiya SC was the first to make it onto the scoreboard when Gilroy Thurton scored the first goal of the game in the 5th minute of play to give his team a 1-0 lead. However, that lead was short-lived as the San Pedro Pirates’ Jesse Smith scored the equalising goal in the 18th minute of play to tie the score at 1-1.
And the game between FF Valley Pride FC and the BDF FC that was scheduled for the MCC Grounds did not materialised.
The competition will continue this coming weekend.
