BASSETERRE, Saint Kitts and Nevis – An early goal from Elroy Alexander Smith held up the whole way for Belize, who earned their first points of the 2019-20 CONCACAF Nations League with a 1-0 win at Saint Kitts and Nevis in Group A of League B on Sunday night at Warner Park in Basseterre, Saint Kitts and Nevis on Sunday 13 October, 2019.
Saint Kitts and Nevis came into the match having scored six goals in their previous two games, including four last Thursday in Belize, but on Sunday night it was Belize who etched their name on the scoreboard as Smith converted a penalty in the 3’ to hand Belize a 1-0 lead.
There was tremendous energy from the two sides throughout the match, especially in the second half as Saint Kitts and Nevis would lurch forward in attack in hopes of an equalizer, while Belize looked to strike on the counter, including via a late free kick from Smith that home Goal Keeper Julani Archibald did well to block.
The Sugar Boyz kept poking and prodding to try to find their goal, but Belize [goal keeper] Woodrow West and his defensive front proved to be too strong and collected a warmly welcomed three points for the visitors.
