Verdes FC sole leaders of the Premier League Opening Season competition

The Premier League of Belize Opening Season Competition continued over the last weekend with four games on the schedule. When the dust finally settled across the playing fields on Sunday, 6 October, 2019, Verdes FC came out as the sole leaders of the Opening Season competition, when it blasted the FF Valley Pride FC at the Carl Ramos Stadium in Dangriga Town by the score of 10-1.
The visiting Verdes FC was the first to make it onto the scoreboard when Mariano Landero scored the first goal of the game in the second minute of play to give his team a 1-0 lead. The lead was increase when Darrell Myette scored his team’s second goal in the 11th minute of play for a 2-0 lead. The lead was further increased when Norman Anderson scored the 27th minute of play and this was followed by Jordy Polanco, who scored in the 35th minute of play for a 4-0 lead. Mariano Landero then scored his second goal of the game in the 41st minute of play for a commanding 5-0 lead.
In the second half of the game, Verdes FC picked up right where it left off and continued its dominance of the game when Krisean Lopez scored his goal in the 55th minute of play and this was followed by Trimanye Harris in the 61st minute of play for a 7-0 lead. Harris then scored his second goal of the game in the 81st minute of play and this was followed by Edwin Bernal, who scored in the 84th and 89th minutes of play for the lopsided win.
Elroy Cardinez scored the only goal of the game for the host team FF Valley Pride in the 62nd minute of play.
At the MCC Grounds, the host team BDF FC won over the visiting Wagiya SC by the score of 2-1.
The BDF FC was the first to make it onto the scoreboard when Jessie August scored his first goal of the game in the 24th minute of play to give his team the early lead.
In the second half of the game, Jesse August scored his second goal of the game in the 49th minute of play via a penalty kick to give his team a 2-0 lead. However, it was not until well into the second half of the game that Kenton Flores was able to score his team’s only goal of the game in the 84th minute of play to cut the deficit to a single goal.
At the Placencia Field in Placencia Village, the defending champions San Pedro Pirates picked up its second win of the season, when it defeated the Placencia Assassins by the score of 3-2.
The San Pedro Pirates were the first to make it onto the scoreboard when Facundo Garnier scored his team’s first goal of the game in the 6th minute of play to give it the early lead. The lead was increase when Henry Vivas scored his team’s second goal of the game in the 11th minute of play for a 2-0 lead. However, the host team Placencia Assassins FC were able to break through the San Pedro Pirates’ defence and make it onto the scoreboard when Leomar Leslie scored his team’s first goal of the game in the 28th minute of play to cut the deficit to a single goal.
In the second half of the game, the San Pedro Pirates extend its lead to 3-1 when Amilton Fiho scored his team final goal of the game in the 56th minute of play. The Placencia Assassins FC did not go away easily and was rewarded with a goal by Deison Moguel in the 85th minute of play via a penalty kick. However, at the sound of the long whistle it was a 3-2 victory for the San Pedro Pirates.
On Saturday, 6 October, 2019, at the Michael Ashcroft Stadium in Independence Village, the visiting Bandits Sport and the home team Altitude FC played to a 2-2 draw.
The visiting Bandits Sport were the first to draw blood when Roberto Silva de Lima scored the first goal of the game in the 4th minute of play to give his team a 1-0 lead. The lead was increase when Georgie Welcome scored his team’s second goal of the game in the 16th minute of play for a 2-0 lead. However, the home team Altitude Assassins FC came roaring back with a goal of its own when Andres Orozco scored the first of his two goals in the 23rd minute of play to cut the deficit into half. In the closing minute of the first half of the game, Andres Orozco scored his second goal of the game in the 45th minute of play to tie the score at 2-2.
The competition will take a break this weekend to allow for Belize’s participation in the Nations League competition.
