Steven Bernard, a 25-year-old resident of Tibruce Street in Belize City, was in court to answer to a charge of handling stolen goods. Police allege that a search of his residence led to the discovery of a speaker system which was taken from the home of Llewelyn Courtenay, after a burglary on September 21, 2019. Bernard appeared before Senior Magistrate Aretha Ford on Tuesday, September 24, 2019 where he pleaded guilty to the charge. Bernard says that he bought the system from a man known to him as “Jason” for $20 but apologized for purchasing the stolen item.
He was fined $300 plus the $5 cost of court for which he was given until October 24, 2019 to pay. Should he default on that payment, he faces three months in prison.
Bernard is presently out on Supreme Court bail for a charge of aggravated burglary, harm, and other charges in which he and three others were allegedly caught by COMPOL Chester Williams inside the business place of a Chinese store in the Lake Independence area during an invasion.
