BELMOPAN, Belize – For the second match in a row, Jamal Charles struck for a late winning goal for Grenada to earn a dramatic 2-1 win at Belize in Group A of League B on Sunday at the Isidro Beaton Stadium in Belmopan.
Charles scored in the 82’ in Thursday’s 2-1 win over Saint Kitts and Nevis and on Sunday delivered another crucial goal, this time in the 90+3’ to give Grenada six points through two games.
Belize would jump out into the lead through all-time leading goal-scorer Deon McCauley, who took a cross from the right and smacked in a header to hand Belize a 1-0 lead in the 24’ for his 24th international goal.
Grenada looked to respond in the second half and a Belize handball in the area paved the way for Arthur Patterson’s 1-1 equalizer from the spot in the 55’.
The momentum was with Grenada as they pushed for a winning goal, but as things drifted into second half stoppage time, all signs pointed toward a draw.
But that memo didn’t reach Charles, who collected a ball in the area and with less than a minute left and fired into goal to earn Grenada the dramatic victory.
