A construction worker, 26-year-old Albert Dennis Robinson, was arraigned in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court on a charge of the possession of a controlled drug. Police allege that on Monday, September 2, 2019, Robinson was found in possession of eleven grams of cannabis, one gram more than any one person can have in their possession without it being a criminal offense.
A search was conducted on Robinson by officers of the Gang Suppression Unit (GSU). PC Shaheed Myers and other officers were in a marked police vehicle and spotted Robinson. They informed him that they would conduct a search which led to the discovery of a transparent plastic bag which contained three separate plastic bags of suspected marijuana.
Robinson informed the court that while the drugs were in three bags, they were all for his personal use. He claims that he thought he only had eight grams of weed on his person and that the weight of the bags themselves possibly account for the remaining three grams. Luckily for Robinson, he was only cautioned and discharged from the offense, despite pleading guilty. Magistrate Khadeen Palmer let Robinson walk from the charge but advised him to stay within the prescribed amount specified by law. As funny as it may sound, Robinson asked the magistrate if he should buy himself a digital scale to make sure he is within the prescribed limit.
