The 74th annual Queen of the Bay pageant, a pageant which showcases beauty, intelligence, and patriotism, was held on Friday, August 30, 2019 at the Bliss Center for the Performing Arts. Seven delegates, from Belize City, Belmopan, San Ignacio-Santa Elena, Placencia, Stann Creek, Toledo, and San Pedro, graced the stage with their poise and beauty. After rounds of introductions, talent showcases, formal wear, and the difficult curtsy, the seven delegates were reduced to four. Those four representatives, hailing from Belmopan, Stann Creek, San Ignacio-Santa Elena, and San Pedro, then participated in the question and answer segment.
At the end of the night, the delegate from the Twin Towns of San Ignacio-Santa Elena, Kimberly Santos, emerged victorious. This is the first time in 54 years of the pageant that a winner has emerged from that municipality. That was Queen Yolanda Cruz who won in 1965.
Santos is an avid dancer and besides her passion for dancing, she says that she has been and will continue to be an advocate in her community for the ban or single-use plastics. She now plans to use her platform as the 74th Queen of the Bay to be a national environmental activist.
Third-runner up in the pageant is Aaliyah Pilgrim from San Pedro while Second runner up is Kiah Pastor from Belmopan. First runner up is Sabrina Coleman, who hailed from Stann Creek.
Coronation for the Queen of the Bay 2019 (Designate), Kimberly Santos, will be held at the official September 10th ceremonies in Belize City. The outgoing Queen of the Bay hails from Belmopan, Queen Jenny Lee Cruz, who recently won Channel 5’s singing competition, KTV.
Special awards were given as follows: Miss Amity, Sabrina Coleman, Stann Creek; Most Talented: Kimberly Santos, San Ignacio-Santa Elena; Miss Eloquence: Sabrina Coleman, Stann Creek; Most Elegantly Dressed: Sabrina Coleman, Stann Creek; and Miss Photogenic: Kimberly Santos, San Ignacio-Santa Elena.
