PUP appoints wrong person to Senate

About two weeks ago on August 14th, the PUP made one of their routine missteps when they tried to appoint Dr. Candice Pitts as a PUP Senator to replace Valerie Woods. Apparently the PUP was unaware that a person cannot be a Senator and an elected Belize City Councilor at the same time. It was only after the media alerted them that they became aware of the law which prevents such occurrence. Rather than admitting that they were unaware of that law, they lied saying that there was no such proposal as yet. We on the other hand knew of and had seen the Correspondence they had written and sent to the Governor General, requesting Pitts’ appointment as senator.
The PUP is now fixing its error, after lying and pretending that it never happened. On Monday when the Opposition Leader John Briceno returned to work full-time at his office after working out of his house for 3-weeks. He was on sick leave to recover from injuries he received to his head during a traffic accident he was in on August 2nd. In a press release he stated that, “upon his resumption of duties and having consulted with leaders in the Party, the Leader of the Opposition is pleased to announce that he is recommending the appointment of Isabel G. Bennett and Dr. Louis Zabaneh as Opposition Senators.”
The crafty way the release is written one could easily be misled into believing that the August 14th, letter never happened. Could it be that the injury to the JOHNNY’S head caused him to forget that letter? It reminds us of the man who told the Senate Special Select Committee, that a BRAIN SURGERY he had in COROZAL affected his memory. If that is the case, they cannot be faulted if they were to move Johnny, if in their opinion he has a few screws loose. The way it looks right now is that Dr. Pitts is passed over again, and she stays at City Hall. One would have thought that with Pitts being one of the PUP’s candidates for the next election, the PUP would have preferred her being in the Senate where she would have gotten the chance to show her skills to the electorate.
That type of national exposure is something any up and coming but virtually unknown politician should accept with open arms. However, it appears that the PUP does not want to risk having a UDP elected to the city council. That would have more than likely been the result if there were a by-election. The people would have taken the opportunity to have eyes inside the city council, in order to keep the present council in line. The PUP can’t afford, that type of scrutiny before the next election perhaps they may be afraid of what such a councilor may be able to uncover at City Hall. They can’t risk to expose the cards Mayor Wagner said he was holding near to his chest.
We would like to send a few words of caution to nurse Bennett, who it appears is a very decent and upstanding individual. She ought to be very careful when she deals with that sick bunch of people called the PUP. Not only are they sick, but they may be carrying all types contagious bacteria and illnesses. The PUP are like rats and pigeons. They can infect you with whatever sickness they have. Nurse Bennett needs to observe every universal precaution when dealing with the PUP. We hope she has an adequate supply of hazmat suits, to insulate herself from the greed, thievery, and rampant corruption, that is in the PUP’S DNA.
