On Monday August 26th the Ministry of Health in conjunction with the European Union officially opened two new Polyclinics in the Southern part of the country. The first clinic was opened at Bella Vista in the Toledo district. The building included the refurbishment of the existing facility to include equipment for primary healthcare.
The second clinic was opened in Independence Village where an ambulance was also a part of the services now being offered. According to the European Union’s representative, Nicolaus Hansmann, he said that the investment amounted to 1.7 million Belize dollars for both clinics and additional equipment. He noted that under the program of the banana accompanying measures, over the last 15 years, close to 70 million dollars has been invested in the banana industry to make it more competitive.
Those investments are holistic in nature where significant improvements have been made to the industry itself as well as roads, electricity access, healthcare, water access among other areas.
