Bandits Sport and Verdes FC maintains lead in Premier League Opening Season

The Premier League of Belize 2019-2020 Opening Season Competition continued over the last weekend with four games on the schedule.

On Sunday 18th August, at the MCC Grounds in Belize City, co-leader of the Opening Season competition Bandits Sport and BDF FC played to a 1-1 draw.

The host team BDF FC was the first to make it onto the scoreboard when Ean Lewis scored the first goal of the game in the 36th minute of play to give his team a 1-0 lead. However, that lead was short-lived, as an own goal by Enfield Nunez (a BDF FC player) in the 45th minute of play tie the score for the visiting Bandits Sport.

At the end of the long whistle the gamed ended in a 1-1 draw.

Meanwhile, at the Norman Broaster Stadium in San Ignacio Town, the other co-leader of the competition Verdes FC, denied the defending champions San Pedro Pirates FC, its first win of the competition when it played to a 3-3 draw.

The visiting San Pedro Pirates FC was the first to make it onto the scoreboard when Facundo Garnier scored the first goal of the game in the 2nd minute of play to give his team a 1-0 lead. However, Mariano Landero scored the equalising goal of Verdes FC in the 10th minute of play to tie the score at 1-1. Anderson Córdoba then made it a 2-1 game when he scored the go-ahead goal for the San Pedro Pirates in the 18th minute of play for the lead.

At the half, the defending champions San Pedro Pirates enjoyed a slim 2-1 lead. The San Pedro Pirates took the slim lead into the second half of the game when Facundo Garnier scored his 2nd goal of the game in the 58th minute of play to extend his team’s lead to 3-1. However, Verdes FC did not turned over and play dead but instead came roaring back with two goals of its own to tie the score. Marino Landero started the come-back process when he scored his second goal of the game in the 69th minute of play via a penalty kick to cut the deficit into half. Desmond Wade then scored the final goal of the game in the 90th minute of play to tie the score at 3-3 and gave his team the draw.

At the Carl Ramos Stadium in Dangriga Town, the visiting Placencia Assassins FC defeated FF Valley Pride FC by the score of 3-1. The host team FF Valley Pride took an early lead when Latrell Middleton scored his team’s only goal of the game in the 9th minute of play to give his team a 1-0 lead.

The visiting Placencia Assassins FC then made it a 1-1 score when Rollin Burgess scored the equalising goal in the 30th minute of play to tie the score.

In the second half of the game, Rollin Burgess scored his second goal of the game in the 54th minute of play via a penalty kick to give his team a 2-1 lead. And then Ashton Torres made it a 3-1 score when he scored the final goal of the game in the 83rd minute of play.

In the only game of the competition that was played on Saturday 17th August at the Michael Ashcroft Stadium in Independence Village, the home team Altitude FC blanked Wagiya Sporting Club by the score of 1-0.

Elroy Coe, a home grown talent from Independence scored the only goal of the game in the 90th minute of play to give his team the win.

The competition will continue this coming weekend with four more games on the schedule.
