Deputy Commissioner of Police, Edward Broaster received a total of 10 breathalyzers from attorney at law, Christopher Coye. According to Broaster, the equipment will be deployed in areas where there is a greater propensity for persons to be driving drunk . These include the Northern and Southern parts of the country as well as Belize City. According to the ACP, there is legislation which allows for officers to use these pieces of equipment to test the sobriety of drivers.

For his part, Coye told the press that very regularly there are incidents of road traffic accidents and drunk driving is often a major factor in these. He said that he is hopeful that the equipment will be able to curb these.
