The Credit Union movement in Benque Viejo Del Carmen has re-taken firm root on its soil. As a movement, Credit Unions across the globe have taken out 211.4 million persons out of poverty by urging its membership to save wisely. The Saint Martin’s Credit Union SMCU in Benque Viejo is doing its part to now positively change the lives of residents in Western Belize.

On June 11, 2019 the SMCU Benque Branch celebrated its first anniversary. The performance of this branch has been greater than expected.

“It has been a very successful year. It has been better than we planned. It is just something better to give back to the community, telling basically thank you for opening your arms to us. We don’t have the best history of credit union, but thank God and thanks to everyone in the community it’s been a great year,” says Camile Cal, it’s young manager for SMCU’s Benque Branch.

To mark the occasion, SMCU Benque invited local businesses to its grounds on Saturday to showcase their wares. Vegas Distributors, BRC Printing and the just launched Eco Filtro were out there for the mini expo on Saturday promoting their services to local residents.
