An employee of the Port Loyola Health Center and recently retired Deputy Director of Health Services, Matron Augustina Elijio, was the victim of a stabbing incident on Tuesday, June 4, 2019. Just after 4:00 p.m., she was attacked and stabbed to the abdomen and chest by Collin Francis, a mental patient she had treated earlier in the day. Although she was retired, Elijio was contracted by the Ministry of Health as the psychiatric nurse practitioner at the facility just two weeks ago.

Eyewitnesses say that Elijio had treated the patient earlier that day and in the afternoon, he returned, put his bicycle outside, and went to see the nurse again. It seems that he became distressed shortly after meeting with Elijio and drew a folded knife and stabbed her multiple times. Security guards on the compound quickly responded, detaining Francis. Elijio was rushed to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital for treatment and was admitted in a critical condition.

The scene was visited and processed by Scenes of Crime technicians who recovered the folded knife and took a blood swab.
