San Ignacio Police are investigating the stabbing murder of 47 year-old Marcario Alberto Tzib, a security guard from that Cayo Town.

At around 4:45 p.m. on Monday, April 8th, 2019 cops visited Thornley Street in San Ignacio. When they arrived they found Tzib inside his wooden home. His body was already decomposing. A post-mortem examination indicates that he died because someone slashed his throat and stabbed him to the chest. A doctor has indicated to investigators that he most likely died within 3 days of his discovery. It was the smell of decay that alarmed his neighbors, who then called police.

His brother, Moises Tzib, has indicated to the press that that they were estranged. As a result, he is unclear about what could have caused Tzib to be killed, and who that perpetrator might be.

Tzib was once a resident of Bullet Tree Village, but he moved to San Ignacio. Moises Tzib told the press that they did not keep in communication. Macario Tzib lived alone at his home for years. He did not have a wife or children.

Tzib worked for years a park ranger at El Pilar and Caracol.

Discussing the case with the press, Assistant Superintendent Daniel Iche, the officer commanding San Ignacio Police told the press, “We have been aggressively investigating this incident… We are seeking out two persons of interest in this investigation. I would like to appeal to the general public that if they know or saw anything, come forward and assist us with this investigation.”
