As many as 200 children from nine schools in Belize City were hosted by the Belize Tourism Board (BTB) at the Fort Street Tourist Village (FSTV) for a children’s Christmas party on Wednesday, November 28, 2018. This year, which marks the 15th year for the Holiday Gift Project, only saw the participation of nine schools, versus the usual 10, as one school was unable to attend due to exams. The other nine schools included St. Luke’s Methodist, St. Mary’s, Muslim Community School, Wesley Lower, Trinity Methodist, Ephesus SDA, Ebenezer Methodist, Buttonwood Bay Nazarene, and St. John’s Vianney.

According to Maria Guerra, Cruise Coordinator, BTB, the BTB worked with the Ministry of Education to identify the most needy and deserving schools and the principals and teachers worked to choose the students who would attend.

The 200 students were selected based on their needs and were brought cheer in the form of gifts, games and entertainment, and a meal. BTB and the Florida Caribbean Cruise Association (FCCA) and Princess Cruises planned the event to its end and the 20 crew members from the ship donated presents to the students themselves. Ozzy the Clown performed for almost the entirety of the 3-hour long event and even had the participation of teachers to entertain the children.
