18-year-old charged for robbery at Premium Wines and Spirits Print E-mail

Premium Wines and Spirits in Belize City was robbed on Friday, September 7 and over the weekend, with the help of surveillance footage, police were able to make an arrest in connection with the robbery. They arrested 18-year-old Everald Sambula who is currently on remand on four counts of robbery. While Sambula was detained, charged, and arraigned, two other persons connected to the robbery remain at large.

In court, Sambula, who was represented by attorney Ronell Gonzalez, was read four counts of robbery when he appeared before Magistrate Emmerson Banner on Tuesday, September 11. He was read a count for robbery upon Maria Price, Manager at Premium Wines and Spirits, who was robbed of items totaling $2,300. He was also charged with a second count of robbery upon Guermo Fuentes who was robbed of his cell phone valued at $500.  A third count of robbery was read for him robbing Noel Hyde who was robbed of his cell phone valued at $460 and $120 in cash. Sambula was also charged for stealing BZD, $41,000, USD $6,300, and $1,666.65 in cheques, all to a total of $55,266.65, from Premium Wines and Spirit.

No plea was taken since the robbery exceeded $50,000 meaning that the matter will be tried in the Supreme Court. He was denied bail due to the nature of the offense and remanded to the Belize Central Prison until October 16, 2018.
