Leroy Meighan Sr., a 22 year-old resident of Pelican Street in Belize City, died of gunshots he suffered on Saturday night, September 1st, 2018. He was shot and killed right in his neighborhood, a short distance away from his home.

Police say that at around 8:50 p.m., they were informed of his shooting, and they found him at the KHMH suffering from gunshot wounds to the left side of the chest and the back. By the time the investigators arrived, he had already been pronounced dead by an on-duty doctor.

Investigations reveal so far that at around 8:35 p.m., he was walking on Central American Boulevard, and as soon as he arrived on his home street, a gunman came out of a bushy yard and shot him several times. He was rushed to the KHMH, but he died about 10 minutes later.

His friends and family are devastated by his murder, and his sister, Shantell Flowers, told the press that his mother, and his son, are the members of the family that she is most worried about.

Flowers said, “They left my mom without her son… We love Lee; everybody loves him. [We’re] just making them know they took away our loved one, and it is not a very nice feeling to deal with.”

Alexi Ordonez, a friend of his also commented to the press saying, “He is a very hard worker… People will say he was on the street, but whenever a job comes up, and somebody has the opportunity to give it to him, he would be willing to take on any job. He would be 22 now, but he was a friend nonetheless, a father, a brother.”

He leaves behind a 5 year-old son, who shares his name.
