Fatal Hit and Run in Orange Walk and RTA in San Ignacio Print E-mail

On May 31, 2018 at about 7:18 p.m., police responded to a report on the San Estevan Road in Orange Walk Town. Upon arrival at the location, the officers observed the motionless body of a Hispanic male person lying on the road with injuries to the body. The body was identifies as that of Melito Macario Medina, a 51-year-old Belizean of Petville Area, Orange Walk District.

Initial investigation revealed that sometime between 6:00 p.m. and when he was found, Medina was hit by an unknown vehicle while walking home. Police are investigating.

In a separate incident, at about 6:40 p.m. on that same date, San Ignacio police responded to a report of a traffic accident on the Bullet Tree Road in San Ignacio Town. Upon arriving at the scene, the officers observed the body of a woman lying on the ground with injuries to the body. They also observed a green Wingle pickup with damages to the front portion.

Initial investigation revealed that Hanzela Rodriguez, a 28-year-old domestic of a San Ignacio Town address, was running from the direction of San Ignacio Town towards Bullet Tree Village and upon reaching by the New Site Area, the pickup hit her.

She was taken to the San Ignacio Community Hospital for medical attention and was later transported to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital. The vehicle was being driven by Julio Antonio Perez Reque, a 36-year-old Venezuelan technician of Bullet Tree Falls Village. An NIP was issued to Perez Reque. Police are investigating.
