The San Ignacio and Santa Elena Town Council held a mother’s day special at the Cayo Welcome Center on Saturday night. Hundreds of mothers came out to celebrate their contributions to the Belizean society.

Staff members from the Town Council based in San Ignacio had pooled their resources along with the local business community towards one hundred gift packages.  These gifts were distributed to mothers on Saturday.

“But because mothers have been so special to us…what mothers have done for us, we will never be able to re-pay, the works and the way they have molded us into what we are today is invaluable, so all I want to say at this time is that mothers we love you, we will always cherish that special part for you in our hearts, ” says Mayor Earl Trapp Junior, who was on hand to celebrate with mothers.

In a brief interview with the Guardian on Saturday, Mayor Earl Trapp reminded that the San Ignacio Market is now in its second phase and a public-private partnership was on the making for its financing. He also revealed that the one point five million dollar loan facility from the National Bank of Belize, which had been allocated to building the Council’s headquarters was now being paid back ahead of schedule. Mayor Trapp also committed to paying that loan within four to five years instead of a decade.
