At 3:30a.m. on Wednesday August 9, police visited a house on Mahogany Street in Belize City where they saw the body of Ruben Esquivel Aguilar, a 45-year-old Guatemalan man, lying in the kitchen area with multiple gunshot wounds and apparently dead.

Investigations revealed that at around 3:20 a.m., Aguilar’s sister was awoken by a noise in the house. She then heard Aguilar shouting her name and shortly thereafter she heard gunshots.

The police were called and the body of Aguilar was transported to the K.H.M.H where he was pronounced dead at 5:39 a.m. He had sustained gunshot wounds to the head abdomen and arm.

Family members say that Aguilar was at the house along with his sister when two men gained entry into the house through a back window. Once inside the men were confronted by Aguilar and by all appearances the confrontation resulted in him being shot and killed. While Aguilar was shot, his sister managed to lock herself inside one of the rooms and was unharmed.

While police are just a couple of blocks away, they were unable to apprehend any of the culprits as the incident occurred in a densely housed area where the men were able to make a quick escape after their crime.
